What is a Brainstorm??
  • A brainstorm is a way to generate/create ideas
for a certain topic. For us, we will use a
brainstorm to begin our writing process.
  • You will write the name of you picture in the
center, and while looking at your picture, write
everything that the picture makes you think/feel
or any ideas and connect them to the picture.
  • After this we can then organize these ideas into
sentences and then into our paragraph.

What are Wh-question words?
Wh-questions are
  • Who
  • What
  • Where
  • When
  • Why
  • How

6
  • Sensory Details

Sensory Details
  • When you describe a person, place, thing, or
animal, it is important that you give the reader
a clear picture of what you are describing. The
best way to do this is to use sensory details.
They are called "sensory details" because they
use the five senses they show how something or
someone looks, sounds, smells, tastes, or feels.
Writing that has a lot of sensory detail is much
    more interesting to read!

7
IMAGINED Sensory Details
  • For our pictures, we must imagine or create
    sensory details.
  • From the picture we have chosen we know how our
    scene looks. But.
  • We dont KNOW how the scene/picture feels,
smells, tastes or sounds so we must imagine these
    details.

8
Rubric
  • What is a Rubric?
  • A rubric is a scoring tool that lists the
criteria for a piece of work.
  • We can think of this as what counts in our CW.
  • This is what I will use to grade you.

9
Word Choice
  • The use of rich, colorful, precise language that
    moves and enlightens the reader.
  • Sensory details and other words and phrases that
draw a picture for your reader.

10
Ideas and Organization
  • Ideas are fully developed and conveyed in a clear
and organized way which help to explain the main
    purpose of the writing.

11

    descriptive adjective, sensory details, and
    introductory and concluding sentences.

Creative Writing Example
  • Introduction
  • My grandmother is the most important person in
my life. She always gives me advice, love and
support. I look up to her because she is a very
gentle person, but she is also very strong.
  • Strong can mean physically strong but also
    strength of character or personality.

19
  • Body
  • I love my grandmothers face. She has many deep
wrinkles on her kind face. I think she is
beautiful, especially when she smiles. She has a
big, bright, happy smile. When she smiles, her
soft, brown eyes light up. I also love how my
grandmother smells. She uses lotion on her hands.
The lotion smells like roses. Every time I smell
roses, I think of my grandmother. I think of her
warm, loving hugs. Although she is small, she
gives big, strong hugs. Whenever I come to her
house, she gives me one of these hugs. Then she
makes me sweet, delicious hot chocolate. This is
    our tradition.

20
  • My grandmother is also a very strong person. My
grandfather died many years ago. She lives alone
and takes care of herself. When I have a problem,
I always go to her. She is very wise and gives
good advice. My grandmother can also be very
strict. She wants me to get good grades and to be
responsible. I always try my best because I want
her to be pround of me.

21
  • Conclusion
  • My grandmother is a very important person to
me. I cant imagine life without her. Sometimes I
worry that one day she will not be here. However.
I know that my grand mothers beautiful smile and
her loving hugs will always be in my heart.
