Before the Books
  • Born on April 5, 1956 in Stanmore,Middlesex,
    England
  • Admits his father was a very secretive man.
    Became in danger of becoming bankrupt, and after
    removing his wealth from Zürich banks, hid it
    away under a false name. He then died, leaving
    his wife searching for but never finding the
    money
  • In 1963, at the age of eight, was sent to Orley
    Farm a boarding school in Harrow, London
  • He remembers the headmaster of the school
    flogging the boys until they bled".
  • Attended Rugby School followed by the University
    of York.

1978-1991
  • Horowitz had wanted to be a writer since he was
    eight
  • 1978-the publication of his first book, Enter
    Frederick K Bower was released.
  • A year later a sequel was followed, The Sinister
    Secret of Frederick K Bower.
  • 1981- Third novel, Misha, the Magician and the
    Mysterious Amulet.
  • 1983- the first of the Pentagram series, The
    Devil's Door-bell This story was about Martin
    Hopkins battling an ancient evil that threatened
    the whole world.
  • Originally, there was supposed to be 5 books in
    the Pentagram series, however only 4 out of the
    five were written, the other three were The Night
    of the Scorpion (1984), The Silver Citadel (1986)
    and Day of the Dragon (1989).

1994-2000
  • Horowitz wrote many stand-alone novels in the
    1990s.
  • Granny (1994) was Horowitz's first book in three
    years. The second of the series was The Switch in
    1996. The third and last of the series was The
    Devil and His Boy (1998), which is set in the
    Elizabethan era, and explores the rumor of
    Elizabeth I's secret son.
  • Horowitz Horror (1999) and More Horowitz Horror
    (2000) explored a darker side to his writing.
    Each book contains a number of short horror
    stories.

2000-???
  • Horowitz began his most famous and successful
    series, the Alex Rider novels. These books are
    about a 14-year old boy becoming a spy. Right
    now, there are seven Alex Rider books
    Stormbreaker (2000), Point Blanc (2001), Skeleton
    Key (2002), Eagle Strike (2003), Scorpia (2004)
    Ark Angel (2005) and Snakehead (2007)
  • All Alex Rider novels were released in April of
    every year expect 2006 when Horowitz started
    another series The Power of Five
  • The Power of Five is a rewritten and modern
    version of the Pentagram Series
  • 3 books have been released as part of the Power
    of Five series. The first was Ravens Gate
    (2005), Evil Star (2006) and Nightrise (2007)
  • Horowitz describes the Power of Five series as
    Alex Rider with witches and monsters

Television and Film
  • Children's anthology series Dramarama
  • Wrote for the popular fantasy series Robin of
    Sherwood.
  • Often his work has a comic edge, Murder Most
    Horrid (1991) and the comedy-drama The Last
    Englishman (1995), starring Jim Broadbent.
  • 1997, wrote the majority of the episodes in the
    early series of Midsomer Murders
  • 2001, he created a drama anthology series of his
    own, Murder in Mind
  • Also less-favorably known for the creation of two
    short-lived and sometimes derided science-fiction

    Man (pilot 1996, series 1998)
  • Foyle's War in 2002 had restored his reputation
    as one of Britain's foremost writers of popular
    drama.
  • Writer of a feature film screenplay, The
    Gathering, which was released in 2002 and starred
    Christina Ricci.
  • He wrote the screenplay for Alex Rider's first
    major motion picture, Stormbreaker and is working
    on the screenplay for the second Point Blanc.
