2Short description of the zone
- Zone sudano-sahelian, annual rainfall is 550 mm,
irregular, - during 4 months
- Subsistence agriculture cotton is cashcrop
extensive animal - husbandry
- strong pression on natural resources
(pasture-land, arable land, - water, wood)
- human environment very complexe 12 differents
ethnies, - 3 differents religions very strong traditionels
chiefs - High population density high rural exodus
- permanent conflicts between farmers and herdsmen
and between - landed proprietors and tenant farmers
3POPULATION
- 9 /10 women illiterate 7 / 10 men illiterate
- High personal dependancy on traditional chief
authority lack of personal freedom - Traditional and modern government styles are
strongly authoritarian - Population is only used to traditional
organisation for cultural occasions - high concentration of political power in the
hands of traditional chiefs and modern
administration

Very low agricultural productivity food
