- Hispanics are now the largest minority in
Florida. There are currently 3,250,768 (2004)
Hispanics residing in Florida compared to
2,682,715 in 2000. As a percentage of the total
population, Hispanics increased from 16.8 to
19.1. - Statewide, there has been 21 growth of Hispanic
population in four years. - The Hispanic population is moving north no
longer just concentrated in Miami-Dade County. - The Census estimates that in 2004, 61 of the
States Hispanics lived in South Florida(
Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach
counties). - This compares to 64 in 2000.

4Hispanics by Nationality
- The Cuban population has decreased from about 50
of the States Hispanic population in 1990 to
only 31 in 2000. - Cubans are mainly concentrated in Miami-Dade
County and West Broward. - Puerto Ricans are the second largest Hispanic
group in the State, concentrated in Central
Florida (Orange and Osceola counties). - Mexicans are the fastest growing Hispanic group,
but there are also significant numbers of
Nicaraguans, Colombians, Venezuelans, etc.

14How Hispanics Vote
- Cuban-Americans are the most likely voters of all
Hispanic groups. - They are the most Republican Hispanic voters in
the country. - However, Floridas Non-Cuban Hispanics also tend
to be far more Republican than their counterparts
elsewhere in the country.
