WHAT DOES IT TAKE The objective for the majority
of teams participating in the ATC is to finish
the race - not to win. We have learned from the
past five races that the most successful teams
are not necessarily those with the best physical
condition. Instead, those who are the most
focused and have the most realistic expectations
to themselves and to the race, are more likely to
make it through the race or even win. The
event is by any standard very demanding, and the
teams resources and limitations are very quickly
exposed. The participants are placed in an
environment that is completely different from
what they know. They will be challenged in their
ability to adapt and in their motivation. To
finish the race the team participants need to be
in a physically good shape, and they have to be
focused in their preparation. However, the
success of the team is based on the individuals
attitudes, behaviour and ability to cooperate.
A corporate team can choose to participate in the
ATC on special conditions, which means that the
team decides the difficulty of their
participation in the race. Corporate teams are
free to choose the number of race days and/or the
length of their routes. In this way the team can
do anything from a very easy race to a demanding
full race. The level of participation is arranged
in advance with the ATC management, but can be
adjusted during the race. ATC offers two
information meetings in Copenhagen, continuous
supervision by telephone and email correspondence
with the ATC management in Greenland. When teams
have arrived on the Ammassalik Island, East
Greenland the team is offered glacier
instruction, and safety procedures. Before each
stage during the race, the corporate team will be
offered an extended race briefing and advice by
the race directors.
  • ARCTIC TEAM CHALLENGE AS TEAMBUILDING
  • Focusing on responsibility, consequence and
    ability to co-operate
  • Developing the teams ability to decide and act
    in stressed situations
  • Developing the individual flexibility and
    tolerance
  • Strengthens the individuals self-respect
  • Strengthens the company/department profile.
  • With this ultimate team test and the pristine
arctic nature as the backdrop, the team shares an
everlasting reference, contributing to create and
maintain the team spirit that is essential to any
company. During the race, the team is faced with
challenges where the effort and attitude from
each individual will cause consequences for the
whole team just as it happens in real life.
Therefore, it is crucial that the team has a high
social responsibility and a good drive and
    dedication.
