Preparation of documents

• Make sure all paper clips and staples are removed
• If whole book - please cut the spine (you can
  take it to the UCF Print Shop)
• Do not recommend to scan copies preference is
  given to originals

Scanning for Editing

• Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Software
  Packages
• OmniPage Pro
• Text Bridge
• Acrobat Capture
• Output Files
• MS Word, Wordperfect, Ascii (Text), Rich Text
  Format (RTF), PDF

Scanning for Editing (cont.)

• For best results, scan at 300 dpi (dots per inch)
• The better the image when captured the better
  results you will have when it is processed in OCR
• OCR is not 100 accurrate, it depends on your
  original and proofing is needed

Scanning for Web or Email

• For web or email, the file needs to be small
• PDF or Text file format is preferred
• For view or print only, PDF is the recommended
  file format scanned at 100 dpi

• Adobe Acrobat 6.0
• Scanned pages into the PDF format using the
  scanner directly
• One single file, image only, file cannot be
  edited
• Scan at 100 dpi

  transfer and internet

• Used for creating web graphics, 8 bit or 256
