Pupil and Staff Surveys
7
Staff Survey
Aim establish level of knowledge and
understanding of ESDGC in curriculum areas and
wider school environment Our expectations PSE,
science and geography would have sound knowledge,
history would contribute to conflict
resolution Logistics 50 of staff were surveyed
including SLT. Staff were initially selected
randomly from a staff list, adjustments were made
ensuring entire curriculum coverage, teaching
experience and gender. Return rate was 40 and
curriculum areas were indicated. Analysis
responses were read to give an idea of curriculum
areas that incorporated some of the key concepts
in their Schemes of Work. Difficulties arose
where responses were orientated more towards a
particular key stage.
8
  • Results
  • 23 of staff attempted a definition of ESDGC
  • 47 never considered ESDGC in planning
  • Positive responses from science, geography and
history as predicted and also DT and RE
  • Poor responses from English, ICT, Maths and music
  • Limited use of school grounds for learning
  • Overall lack of knowledge and understanding of
what ESDGC is, how it influences ethos of whole
school life and where it could be embedded into
    curriculum

9
Pupil Survey
Aim find out pupil perceptions of ESDGC which
key concepts of ESDGC were strong and weak within
the whole school curriculum areas where key
concepts were explicit. Our expectations we
expected sustainable change to be a positive area
due to work of Eco committee and EcoSchools
silver award. Logistics 23 surveyed, one
registration class in each year group. Year 13
were not included. Form teachers needed to
support lower ability pupils although peer
support and clarification were allowed. Test run
with school council revealed tendency towards the
negative. Survey questions were compiled using a
model designed for Pembrokeshire County Council
Sustainable Schools scheme.
10
Analysis Edwardsville analysis tool was adapted
Data was entered for each year group and then as
whole school. Summary scores used as tool for
comparison.
