Title: Audition Etiquette

1
Audition Etiquette
  • What you need to know

2
1. Be prepared
  • Read the audition advertisement carefully!
  • Know the exact details and what will be expected.
  • Prepare a monologue, music, and/or dance number
    accordingly.

3
2. Be early
  • Plan to arrive a few minutes early. There will be
paper work to sign and a time slot sheet to
address. Arriving early ensures you receive the
slot that is best for you
  • Bring a resume to attach to the audition form and
    a headshot if possible.

4
3. Dress to impress
  • Remember to be professional. This is the same as
a job interview and should be treated as such.
  • Avoid dark solids as this may cause you to blend
    in with the stage.
  • SPECIAL NOTE!!! If going out for a musical or
dance related show, dress comfortably. You may be
    asked to learn some choreography.

5
4. Remember to be courteous!
  • Common courtesy and politeness can go a LONG way.
  • Be respectful to the directors assistants. They
WILL speak to the director about your conduct
    throughout the audition process.
  • Be kind to everyone at all timesyou never know
    who may be watching.

6
5. Dont forget to warm-up.
  • This is another reason for arriving early.
  • Find a place, whether in solitude or a designated
area, and get yourself warmed up.
  • Dont be shy!!! Talk to some of the people around
and get to know them. Not only will you gain a
warm-up partner, but a new friend as well.
  • If close to the audition area, remain as quiet as
possible as you may be a disturbance to the
    director.

7
6. When youre up
  • When called to the auditioning arena, report
there quickly and quietly. If performing a song,
go to the accompanist and give them your bars of
prepared music and the cue for which you would
like them to start on. Talk to them about tempo.
Do your best and remember, the director is
listening and looking at you not the accompanist.
  • Wait for the director to cue you to go.
  • State your name and number and then go into your
monologue or song. Whichever comes first.

8
7. After you are finished
  • Restate your name and number, and then thank the
director and crew for their time.
  • Ask the stage manager if there are any other
requirements at this time and wait to be
    dismissed.
  • Look for postings on callbacks or wait to be
    contacted by the director.

9
8. Call backs!!!
  • Arrive early and sign in. Begin rehearsing the
material that will be used for the call backs.
  • Most call backs will have you reading for certain
parts and with certain actors. Listen for your
    group.
  • Please take the time to familiarize yourself with
the scenarios. You do not need it memorized but
you should have made some character choices. If
you need more time, ask the director. Unless they
are crunched for time they will be able to
    accommodate you.

10
9. Casting
  • Remember to check for your name on a cast list.
  • After reading what you were cast for, make your
mark (initials) showing that you accept the role
    you were cast for.
  • Failing to make a mark in acceptance will tell
your director that he needs to find a new actor
    for the role.
