- I thought a train was going past, and all of a
sudden the tiles started falling off. I slipped
and was holding on to the scaffolding on the edge
of the roof with my legs dangling over the edge. - I thought an aeroplane was going over, then I
fell down the stairs

- It wasnt like the War of the Worlds, but it was
scary - Im 9 months pregnant and I thought I might go
into labour ! I woke up and the pictures were
rattling on the walls and two fell off. The TV
was bouncing across the table

- Properties suffered structural damage such as
cracked walls - Chimney stacks and roof tiles fell into the
street - People were evacuated from houses some went to
the nearby pub - Streets were closed for safety reasons
- Gas supplies were cut off and over 600 leaks
reported - Power supplies were cut off
- Telephone services were cut off
- Many 999 calls were made
- Only 1 person was hospitalised, with a head
injury - The Channel Tunnel was designed to cope with
earthquakes of magnitude 7.0 on Richter Scale - There were long queues at burger vans as people
couldnt cook at home or make a cup of tea
