PROJECT
MERCURY
- Visioning Scenarios
- Sometimes it helps to paint a picture!
Four different scenarios of how the world could
be different for our employees in the future
3Scenario Recruitment(to illustrate the power of
linking internet, extranet and intranet services
together)
- View the Job Ad on the ABC Co Opportunities
section / pages - Make an application and attach my CV
- Log-in using my ID and Pin
- Book an interview slot online from the available
slots - Fill out a travel expenses form
- Receive my offer letter and phone write to
confirm acceptance - Pack invites me to go online again using ID PIN
- Hit the desk running on day one with all my admin
sorted - Impressed with how organised ABC Co is
Internet
Intranet
Extranet
- Receive an email inviting me for interview, which
includes a 6 digit guest ID number and four digit
pin to access the Recruitment extranet
- Receive an email confirming my interview and the
name of the person I will see - Print-off the attached visitor pass car parking
form - Go for the interview
- Online, I fill out Payroll Bank Details Form,
Private Medical Form, Pensions Application Wish
Form, Car Form, etc. - Before I even start at ABC Co!
- And then the final delight and surprise.. I find
that my log-on ID to all the systems I need and
my first password are the very same I used during
my recruitment
what a great place to work!
4Scenario Maternity Leave(to illustrate
multi-channel approach to employee relationship
management)
IVR
- Go onto the Intranet from home through the secure
Extranet gateway, using my ABC Co ID and Pin - Navigate to the HR Online section and download a
copy of the UK Maternity Policy Guide to my PDA - Read the notes than navigate to the online FAQ to
get answers to my more basic questions
they really take care of my needs!
- The following morning on the way into work, I
call the ABC Co Help Desk from my hands-free kit
in the car - I log-on and go through to an operative in the
Employee Service Centre - I get a few more answers, but decide that I would
like to have a face to face meeting.. - Which I book there and then
- Test is positive, so, once in work, I go onto the
Help Desk and log-in using my ABC Co ID and Pin - Select the Payroll option and check my remaining
leave balance, using the automated Payroll service
- The meeting with my local HR rep goes well
- And I am left feeling secure and happy
- Now I only have hubby to deal with.. If only he
was as easy to operate as the ABC Co Intranet
processes!
5Scenario B2B Sales Rep(to illustrate how the
intranet aids productivity)
- Arrive at the office. Today is he big day when
I meet Mr Big of Big plc to try and win the new
contract - Start by visiting the research site, to obtain
the latest industry news, news on Big plc and a
personal profile of Mr Big.
- Before I leave for Big plc, I access the travel
site to confirm my flight to Edinburgh this
evening and to check the travel report for my
drive to Big plc in Maidenhead.. Dont want to be
late!
- At this rate, I should be able to afford that
holiday in South Africa that my husband is so
keen on! - A thought occurs.. 2 years! This is the longest
I have been with any company!
- Go to the Sales Query tool to check on recent
sales to Big plc and any o/s debts - Go to the Sales Pitch wizard to put together my
presentation. This used to take me 3 days before
they put it on the intranet. Now it takes an
hour! - Download the pitch to my laptop and call for a
taxi
- The deal is done! Mr Big was very impressed
- From the airport departure lounge, I access the
intranet from the internet café (over the
extranet) and record the deal - I check my current commissions level and the
share price
since they put the sales process on the
intranet, my commission has almost doubled
5 oclock
6Scenario Buyer(to illustrate how the intranet
benefits the bottom line)
- Today is the day of the big auction for our
stationery business! - It will all be over in about 30 minutes,
- but a lot of planning has gone into just
- getting this far!
- We run the RFP process online these days via the
extranet.. It ensures we get a standard response
that we can quickly filter. - Suppliers like it too (if theyre honest). Less
chance to differentiate themselves perhaps, but
also much quicker for them to complete.. And they
get asked to do tons of these (all at no cost of
course)
- And so to the auction.. All over in 24 minutes
and no less than 16 separate bids in that time,
before a winner emerged! - A 26 saving (over 2m) and we would never have
been able to do it before the internet appeared
on the scene!
- It started through some collaboration with one of
our strategic suppliers over our extranet, where
we discovered that we were paying at least 20
over the odds for our existing contract.
- That was the trigger for 2 weeks of research
(using the intranet marketplace site where I
investigated the market for stationery and
identified all the possible suppliers - I was able to research their recent deals, get a
report on their financial health and look at
recent management and strategy changes - Once I had the shortlist, I sent out a Request
for Proposal (RFP) by email and put the coffee
on!
- I whittle the shortlist down to 5 suppliers,
using the online value and cost model to
determine the leading proposals - The revised shortlist are sent invites to join
the online auction process. - For commodity items like stationery, others have
apparently saved up to 10 more than for sealed
bids!
our intranet investment has paid for itself many
times over already
