  • as perception (1) The angle of vision, lens,
or filter determines what part of a topic gets
seen and what remains unseen, what gets
included or excludedwhat gets emphasized or
    de-emphasized (AB 52).

3
Angle of Vision Continued
  • Angle of Vision Informs How You Approach Your
    Research
  • purpose will be to inform and persuade, in
general, the common public about some aspect of
    your field of study
  • This purpose will influence the type of question
    you pose for research.
  • The question you pose for research will exclude
some details about the topic while emphasizing
    others.

4
Step 1 Research
  • A QUESTION OF INTEREST
  • Connect with your envisioned audience What kind
of topic would be interesting to them? Would
this topic easily generate different views?
  • Locate a Specific Conversation Based on your
question, search for answers. You may not have a
specific way of seeing the topic, yet, but the
information you read will influence the
perspective you will form. As your perspective
develops, search for new articles that speak to
or continue to inform the topic you have
    designated through the question posed.

5
Step 1 Research
  • FINDING RELEVANT INFORMATION
  • Become a master at searching
  • http//www.lib.purdue.edu
  • from this website, click CORE, login
anonymously, and then click Keyword Search in
the upper right-hand corner of the screen)
  • Key word searches and verses or
  • nesting, using parentheses
  • searching for terms using
    quotation marks

6
Step 1 Research
  • SORTING THROUGH MATERIAL
  • Choose ONLY the information that responds, in
some way, to your question. The article may
prioritize another issue, but if something in the
article responds to your questionand you can
easily see this connectionthe article will be
    useful.
  • Choose reputable or credible information (consult
    your readings).

7
Step 2 Organizing Information Found
  • The annotated bibliography helps you to keep your
sources separate and know what each says in a
    word.
  • Annotated bibliographies are helpful to
researchers, in general, because they reflect a
specific conversation, and scholars can use the
annotated bibliography to expedite their research
    process
  • What is the annotated bibliography? It is an
alphabetical list (citations) of sources followed
by brief summaries of those sources

8
Step 3 Refining Research
  • As information is found, one can think about how
    the conversation is focusing (perception).
  • A perspective can be formed.
  • New information can be found to complete that
    perspective.
  • Angle of vision is now ones stance or
perspective, based on critical thought about the
information found. You will develop this
    perspective in an essay.
  • proposal created presents this perspective. You
are on your way to the research paper!
