    Surgery

  • Use your STUDY guides, and prepare these cases
    before Thursday case discussions

Some hints
  • We cant force you to become part of the team
  • But if you want/ try to, you will get much more
    out of the attachment
  • Dont be afraid
  • While it may be some time since many of us were
    medical students and no doubt courses/methods of
    teaching have changed, most doctors are keen to
    teach you if you arrive prepared to be taught

  • There is time for everyone to attend theatre
  • ..but not if you all leave it to the last week
  • An important skill for a doctor is to be able to
    organise his/ her time schedule efficiently

  • Introduce yourself to medical nursing staff
  • Be punctual
  • Be polite
  • Dont be frightened of asking questions
  • Be appropriately dressed
  • Dont hunt in packs (4 or more)

Some hints
  • If assigned to a specialty clinic, e.g. hand,
    feet, spine, hips knees do some reading before
    the clinic
  • Dont arrive without knowing the names of the
    bones, this is not a good start
  • When asked a question dont be so worried of
    getting it wrong that you dont give yourself a
    chance of getting it right

Finally.
  • If you can identify a problem with the course
    content/ setup let us know
  • Even better if you have a solution to said
    problem also let us know
  • Enjoy your placement
  • You wont enjoy every clinical attachment
  • But. You still have to acquire x amount of
    knowledge to pass the exam
