Salamanders

• Smooth skin
• Long tail
• Four legs
• Amphibians
• Develop in three stages

Stage 1
Egg

EGG

• Eggs are laid in the water, under logs, or on
  roots
• The female salamander stays near the eggs to
  protect them from predators

Stage 2
Larva

LARVA

• Feed on tiny insects in the water (carnivorous)
• External gills
• Tiny legs
• Tail
• Mouth with teeth

Stage 3
Adult

ADULT

• Three main body parts head, body, tail
• Usually have four toes on the front feet and five
  on the hind feet
• Develop lungs but also breathe oxygen through
  their skin
• Absorb moisture through skin so they dont have
  to drink

• A red salamander
• so cold and so
• easy to catch dreamily
• moves his delicate feet
• and long tail. I hold
• my hand open for him to go.
