Characteristics

• Sea otter are endangered animals.
• 200 years ago, demand of its pelt, or skin,
  nearly led to its extinction.
• The average sea otter lives 10-11 years.
• The sea otter is the largest member of the weasel
  family.
• A southern sea otter typically grows about 4 feet
  in length.
• Females are around 45 pounds, and males are
  around 65 pounds.
• A sea otter has 1 million hairs per square inch!!

Habitat

• Sea otters live off the coast of California and
  Alaska.
• Sea otters are also found in the shallow coastal
  waters of the northern Pacific.
• Their historic range stretches from the Kurile
  Islands of Japan, along the coast of Siberia, the
  Aleutian Chain, and down the Alaskan and British
  Columbian coasts to Baja, California.

Predator/Prey

• The sea otters prey are sea urchin, abalone,
  mussels, clams, crabs, and snails.
• The sea otters threats are hunters, oil spills,
  habitat loss, plastic entanglement, and abalone
  fisherman.
