The most famous fur traders in United States
history were the mountain men.These daring
independent trappers generally lived and worked
alone.They traveled through the Rocky Mountains
without maps or roads to guide them.

Everyday, the mountain men set their traps.
Sometimes they traveled many miles in one day to
check them.They cleaned and dry the skin of
beavers they caught.The mountain men work until
the heavy snow of winter then they found shelter.
