Whats New in 2009
  • 1st through 3rd grade jamboree
  • Focus on teaching fundamentals, not winning
  • Games will include rules enforcement, but well
    add time to teach the rules and penalties
  • No playoff series, instead celebrate the end of
    year with an all player Punt, Pass and Kick
    contest
  • 1st grade flag football
  • 2nd grade flag football was very successful in
    2008
  • Expanding to 1st Grade
  • 4th grade officials
  • One certified official will be scheduled for all
    4th grade games
  • Each team will provide coach as supporting
    official
  • Spirit Wear available on-line
  • All Spirit Wear is available on-line see dates
    page
  • Will be shipped directly to home

1st thru 6th Grade Program
  • 1st 2nd Grade Flag Football
  • Building blocks for Laker Football program
  • Practice 1 day per week and Saturday games at
    Five Hawks
  • Monday practices
  • Not optional
  • Allows the program to focus on the fundamentals,
    allowing team practices to focus on team
    formation and running plays
  • Aug 17, 2009 Sept. 21, 2009
  • Weather Contingency Program
  • Provides practice alternatives if inclement
    weather persists
  • We will advise weather contingency plan via PLAY
    Calendar
  • Field locations check the PLAY calendar often
    for potential changes
  • 1st/2nd practices at Five Hawks, starting 600
    either Tues or Thurs
  • 5th/6th practices at Ponds, starting 600
  • 3rd/4th practices at Ryan, starting 615
  • 7th/8th practices at Ponds, starting at 630
  • First practice
  • 3rd-6th are group practice, so head to fields as
    noted above
  • 1st-2nd are team practice, your coach will
    contact advise date/time

Team Selection
  • Coaches are identified
  • Coaches and sons placed on teams we will work
    to honor coaching requests
  • All players weighed to create balanced teams by
    weight and previous year evaluations, except 3rd
    grade
  • 4th-6th Grade Team Selection
  • Each player was evaluated last year, and will be
    used as input into draft selection new players
    will require feedback from coaches
  • Coaches will select player in order based player
    team points, lowest total points will choose
    player first in each round
  • Coaches will fill roster by weight and rated
    talent
  • Team points adjusted and order established for
    next draft round
  • Players notified on August 17, 2009, following
    group practice
  • 3rd grade coaches will meet to choose teams by a
    draw-by-weight-class process
  • 1st-2nd grade teams are randomly assigned

Code of Conduct
  • Passion for the game? Keep it positive!
  • Everyone of these players are Lakers, and will
    play together some day
  • We all need to help each other out
  • Everyone as agreed to Code of Conduct through
    Registration process
  • Zero tolerance period!
  • Let the players play, the coaches coach and the
    parents cheer!

  • Please watch, on a regular basis, the season
    calendar at the PLAY website www.playinfo.org
  • Equipment Pickup Aug 1, 2009
  • Including new items to purchase shoes, shirts,
    etc
  • One day for pickup 3rd/4th 8-10am and 5th/ 6th
    10am-12pm at Ponds Football Shed
  • Flag will receive at their practices
  • First practice for 3rd-6th Saturday, Aug 15,
    2009
  • 3rd-6th grade teams announced on Aug 17, 2009
  • Vikings Pre-season Fundraiser Aug 21, 2009
  • Practice for 3rd 6th grade at PLHS Aug 24,
    2009, 600-730
  • First practice for 1st grade Flag is Sept 8, 2009
    at Five Hawks
  • First practice for 2nd grade Flag is Sept 10,
    2009 at Five Hawks
  • Pictures TBD, the coaches will advise
  • PLAY Youth Night Sept 18, 2009, come join the
    tailgate party
  • PLAY Fest Sept 19, 2009, come celebrate PLAY
