Whats New in 2009
  • Two Tiered MDFL League
  • PLAY will have 2 Tier I teams and 2-3 Tier II
    teams
  • Compete against other Tier I or Tier II teams in
    South Metro
  • Laker Youth Camp
  • Coach Gegenheimer will hold 7th/8th camp during
    second week of practice Aug 17th and 18th, 2009
  • Camp allows all players access to varsity coaches
    and drills
  • Final player evaluations will be completed by
    7th/8th grade coaches during the camp
  • Spirit Wear available on-line
  • All Spirit Wear is available on-line see dates
    page
  • Will be shipped directly to home

7th/8th Grade Program
  • Minnesota Development Football League (MDFL)
  • Play Southern Metro youth programs
  • Two Tiered League
  • Opportunity to play in league playoffs
  • 18-20 players per team
  • Reason for move to two tiered league
  • Allows all players to get more time on the field
  • Build competitiveness in players by playing
    against similar skill sets
  • All players will get same skills and drills
    practices
  • All players will get same opportunity with PLHS
    coaches

7th/8th Grade Program
  • Evaluations
  • Initial evaluations start week of Aug 10, 2009
  • Final evaluation night Aug 18, 2008
  • Team selection on Aug 19, 2008
  • If players not available, will be assigned to
    team based on last season evaluations
  • Weather Contingency Program
  • We have created weather contingency for this
    season
  • We will advise weather contingency plan via PLAY
    Calendar
  • Field location and times
  • 5th/6th practices at Ponds, starting 600
  • 3rd/4th practices at Ryan, starting 615
  • 7th/8th practices at Ponds, starting at 630

Team Selection
  • Based on evaluations, players will be placed
    between MDFL Tier I and Tier II
  • At each tier, MDFL teams divided evenly by skill
    sets
  • Lineman
  • Offensive Backs
  • Wide receivers
  • Linebackers
  • Defensive Backs
  • All coaches will provide evaluations as input
    into team selection process
  • Traveling board and head coaches will
    review/finalize team selection within each tier

Code of Conduct
  • Passion for the game? Keep it positive!
  • Every one of these players are Lakers, and will
    play together some day
  • We all need to help each other out
  • Everyone as agreed to Code of Conduct through
    Registration process
  • Zero tolerance period!
  • Let the players play, the coaches coach and the
    parents cheer!

Important Dates
  • Please watch, on a regular basis, the season
    calendar at the PLAY website www.playinfo.org
  • Equipment Pickup Aug 1, 2009
  • Including new items to purchase shoes, shirts,
    etc
  • One day for pickup 7th/8th 12pm-2pm at Ponds
    Football Shed
  • All 7th/8th grade players will go to Ponds
    football fields for combine try-outs
  • First practice Monday, Aug 10, 2009
  • 7th/8th grade teams announced on Aug 19, 2009
  • Vikings Pre-season Fundraiser Aug 21, 2009
  • Pictures TBD, the coaches will advise
  • PLAY Youth Night Sept 18, 2009, come join the
    tailgate party
  • PLAY Fest Sept 19, 2009, come celebrate PLAY
  • Game schedule is defined by MDFL and will be
    provided late August
