  • Students will be able to express themselves
    and their feelings through choral singing.
    Knowledge and self-confidence will be built
    throughout the year. An overall goal will be
    that students desire to continue their musical
    experience, and to know that every student has a
    vital role in the success of the group.

FOLDERS
  • Students can purchase a black, 1, 3-ring
    binder from Mrs. Hucke for 1.50. If students
    choose to buy elsewhere, the folder needs to fit
    the above criteria. Students need to have
    folders AND a pencil with them for Monday,
    September 12ths rehearsal.

CDS AND/OR CASSETTES
  • Students will need 2 Rewritable CDs for
    rehearsing and testing. Two CDs should cover
    the year. Cassette tapes can be used in place of
    CDs, if students dont have access to a CD
    component to practice. However, CDs are much
    easier to use for practicing. Students are to
    have these materials for class Monday, September
    12th. Please have cases for the CDs and your
    name on all materials.

VOCAL LESSONS

VOCAL LESSONSWITH MRS. HUCKE40 of grade
  • Weekly lessons are 20 minutes long
  • Each student has a regularly scheduled lesson
  • Students need folder, pencil, and CD/cassette
  • Students need to chart practice time (practice
    logs are in their folders)
  • All lessons are worth a certain amount of points
    each week
  • Weekly practice of 20 30 minutes a week cannot
    be stressed enough. Students need to view
    practice as homework to prepare for a
    test/concert.

LESSONS
  • Students will do various activities in weekly
    lessons. Some of the activities we do are
    vocal warm-ups, diaphragmatic breathing, vocal
    technique, theory work, computer work, taping and
    testing.

    are deducted if students do not have these
    materials with them for lessons or for choir.

LESSONS
  • Choir is NOT an extracurricular activity.
    Students will have homework like any other class.
    Practicing is the main homework of the class. A
    minimum of 20-30 minutes a week is recommended.
    There are practice rooms available throughout the
    day for students to come in and practice.

CONCERT INFORMATION

  • Performances

CONCERT DRESS
  • Robes are worn at the first two concerts. Robes
    are assigned to students at the beginning of the
    year. Students will keep their robes at school.
    If the assigned robe is not returned at the end
    of the year, students will be billed.

PERFORMANCES
  • Attendances are manditory.
  • This rule is taken from the Kohler
    student/faculty handbook
  • Band and choral concerts are NOT extracurricular
    activities.
  • Students scheduled for such events are expected
    to
  • participate as part of the course requirement
    concert
  • performance is required assignment outside of
    class. Since
  • students register for these courses understanding
    that
  • participation in concerts is mandatory, teachers
    may lower
  • grades for absence from such events.
  • Unexcused missed concerts will result in a
    lowering of a
  • students letter grade.

PRIVATE VOCAL LESSONS
  • Students who choose to study vocal music with a
    private teacher are encouraged to do so.
  • Guidelines are set for studio teachers and
    students concerning minimum meeting time per
    quarter. These guidelines will be mailed to
    parents of students and to private teachers.
  • Students do not have to meet weekly with Mrs.
    Hucke if they are studying privately however,
    private students must take quarterly tests with
    Mrs. Hucke.

RESCHEDULING
  • If a student cannot make a lesson due to
    sickness or conflict, he/she must reschedule the
    lesson with Mrs. Hucke before the lesson or at
    that lesson time.
  • Students who are in school, but do not show up
    for lessons at their regularly scheduled time,
    will receive a 0 for the weeks lesson.
  • Students who are not in school at the time of
    their regularly scheduled lesson due to illness
    or any excused absence, will have one week to
    make up that missed lesson.

  • I have read the choral booklet and discussed it
    with my child.
  • I have reserved all concert dates for the
    2005-2006 school year.
  • I understand that practicing, outside of class,
    is very important and will encourage my child to
    practice a minimum of 20-30 min. weekly.
  • I understand that my son/daughter needs to have
    all materials for class by Monday, Sept. 12th.
