1Ds Flash Settings
  • Macro Flash Settings
  • Use Manual (M) Exposure
  • Set shutter speed to 1/2xFL
  • Set aperture to f/16 or f/32
  • Leave flash on ETTL
  • 550EX Flash Exposure Settings
  • Use Program (P) Exposure for automatic
    calculations
  • Use Av, Tv or M for evenly-lighted background and
foreground (beware of too-slow shutter speeds!)

47
1Ds No-Nos
  • Dont try to clean the sensor ask a staff
    member to do it!
  • Turn off the camera before changing lenses
  • Angle the body lens opening down if possible when
    changing lenses
  • Dont force the CF card into the slot
  • Dont force anything (i.e. lenses, battery, etc.)
  • Dont submerge it in water
  • Only use L lenses for challenging atmospheric
    conditions
  • Please point out any possible problems to staff
    when returning the camera

48
General Photography Tips
  • 1/focal length shutter speed for sharp photos
  • Use a tripod
  • Use as low an ISO as possible
  • Use an appropriate focal length
  • Only go as wide as you have to with a wide-angle
    lens
  • Use a longer focal length for head shots (i.e.
    100mm )
  • Use IS on 200mm lens.
  • Watch your DOF
  • Dont blow out the highlights (use histogram on
    LCD)
  • Dont forget about white balance
  • Consider the composition (i.e. rule of thirds)
