Origin of ISL

• The ISL, termed Integration Support Lab, has
  been funded under the The Advanced and
  Interactive Displays Federated Laboratory
  Project. The original ISL was managed by
  Rockwell Collins, Inc. In October 1998, UIUC was
  awarded management of the Laboratory. Robin
  Bargar became acting director of the facility for
  the ARL grant.
• In May 1999 the Beckman Institute founded the
  Integrated Systems Lab. The function of this
  lab is to integrate work being performed by
  researchers for both demonstrations and
  experiments.

• ARL Project Support
• Support human studies of consortium systems
• Aid the transition of UIUC technology to ARL
  consortium members
• Develop software solutions for hardware and
  software system integration
• Demonstrate integrated systems

Facilities and Equipment

• Hardware is not owned by ISL. Instead,
  research groups bring in equipment as needed when
  building a project. ISL provides ancillary
  equipment.
• Configuration is very dynamic
• System Administration support is provided by IFP
