Hieroglyphics
  • Hieroglyphics help us learn about ancient
    Egyptian lives. They were individual
    picture-signs, and symbols that stood for
    different letters.

Hieroglyphics were carved or painted on the walls
of temples and tombs, on burial equipment, on
pieces of jewelry, and on false doors.

The Nile River
  • The Nile is the worlds longest river
  • Every year between July and October, the river
    flooded
  • The flood water from the Nile River helped
    ancient farmers turn the Nile Valley into a
    productive agricultural region because of the
    rich soil it produced
  • Egypt is called the gift of the Nile
  • The Nile provided needed food and water in the
    desert

  • There are about 80 pyramids known today from
    ancient Egypt
  • The pyramids of Egypt are the oldest of the seven
    wonders of the ancient world and are the only
    wonder to survive to the present day
  • The three largest and best preserved of the
    pyramids were built at Giza at the beginning of
    the Old Kingdom
  • The most well know was built for pharaoh Khufu
    and is known as the Great Pyramid

    lion in a resting posture, the upper part of the
    body being that of a human

  • The Egyptians embalmed their dead because they
    believed that the deceased were reborn after
    death, and so the would need their bodies for
    existence in the afterlife
  • The earliest Egyptian mummies, discovered at the
    southern city of Hierakonpolis, date from about
    the year 3400 BC

    the Nile River in northeastern Africa for more
    than 3,000 years
  • From about 3300 BC to 30 BC - it was the
    longest-lived civilization of the ancient world
  • Great pyramids, hieroglyphics, elaborately
    decorated underground burial chambers, sprawling
    temple complexes, and statues combining human and
    animal forms are some of the historical gifts
    that survived from ancient Egypt and are still
    being studied today
