2Outline
- Introduction
- Distributed System Architecture (Three units)
- Real-Time Video Streaming Case
- Conclusions
3Introduction
Specific device, stream formats, resolution
4Distributed System Architecture
These three units are designed as loose-coupling
architecture
One stream, multiple purposes
Image Processor
Presentation unit
Capture unit
5Three-tier architecture (1/3)
Capture unit Image Processor Presentation unit
Video input (Device/Interface) Format (Tool/Stream Format)
HDV(1394) HD/MPEG-2TS
DV(1394) DVTS/RAW DV
WEB-CAM(USB) VLC/MPEG-4
CABLE (CAPTURE CARD) VLC/MPEG-4
HD, DVTS, and VLC are open source software
6Three-tier architecture (2/3)
- Stream Receiver VLC FFMPGE
- Image Processor
- stream clipping
- image processing
- image management
- Image Navigation security control
Capture unit Image Processor Presentation unit
7Three-tier architecture (3/3)
Capture unit Image Processor Presentation unit
- Can view the video from web browser or standalone
version - The historical monitoring window
8Distributed stream compression
- Two compression concepts have been implemented
- Client-Server based
- Reduces network bandwidth
- Transfers video stream to multi-formats(mp4,wmv,fl
v,mjpeg) - Server-side based
- Dynamically assign the video stream to suitable
servers depending on loading. - Compresses the video stream to a variety of
bit-rates for different network bandwidth
9Distributed stream compression
- Native VS With compression concepts
10Real-Time Video Streaming
- Ecological Observation in Ken-Ting
11Real-Time Video Streaming
- Ecological Observation in Lanyu
12Ecological Observation in Ken-Ting

web-based presentation interface of four
underwater cameras

and aquarium (Taiwan)
13History Data
14Conclusion
- Has been proofed in real time high-resolution
ecological observation - Plug and Stream
- Loosely coupled architecture, easy to scale-up
- Support multiple streaming methods
- Based on open source software, no hi-end hardware
required.
