Youth Level U12 8 v 8
  • ASA has provided an option for the U12 age group
    within Alberta for 2009
  • Not all districts are participating
  • You will need to find out what is being played in
    your local district
  • Most of Alberta, except Calgary (CMSA) will be 8
    v 8, most of the rest of the Province will be 11
    v 11
  • Tournaments and Provincials will be 8 v 8

  • It is not our intention at this time to review or
    teach the 8 v 8 Rules
  • The Rules Handbook for U12 Development Soccer,
    8 v 8, is available on the ASA website
  • For districts using 8 v 8 for U12 in 2009 a
    booklet will be available for those officiating
    this age group
  • A quick review of some of the Rules are as
    follows

Rule 1 Field of Play - Markings
  • Goals will often be portable make sure they
    can not tip over
  • Goal nets should be used
  • Goal area and penalty area are the same (20
    yards by 8 yards)
  • Penalty spot is 6 yards from the goal line

Rule 3 Number of Players
  • Each team can have
  • 8 players on the field (minimum 6)
  • of players dressed to play is set locally
  • One must be a keeper
  • As many subs as they want

Rule 5 Duration of Game
  • Games will have two equal halves.
  • Each half will be 30 minutes
  • Half time break must be between 5 and 10 minutes
    long

Rule 9 Free Kicks
  • Free kicks are awarded to a team when their
    opponent (s) infringe the rules of the game while
    the ball is in play
  • Free kicks outside the goal area are taken from
    the place where the infringement occurred
  • Opponents must be at least 6 yards from the ball
    until it is kicked
  • Free kick inside a teams own goal area must
    directly leave the area to be in play
  • Player taking a free kick cannot touch the ball
    a second time until it is touched by another
    player

Rule 11 Fouls and Misconduct
  • There are no red or yellow cards shown. Offending
    players are substituted out.
  • If any of the following fouls are intentionally
    committed (in the opinion of the referee) against
    an opponent than a free kick is awarded to the
    opposing side
  • Kicks or attempts to kick
  • Trips
  • Jumps
  • Charges
  • Strikes, attempts to strike or spits
  • Holds
  • Pushes
  • OR handles the ball (except the keeper in own
    goal area)
  • Any foul committed by a player in own goal area,
    a penalty kick is awarded to opposing team

Offside
  • Procedure
  • Player is penalized for offside in the attacking
    1/3 when they are closer to the goal line than
    the second last opponent and
  • At the moment the ball touches or is played by
    one of this team, he is , in the opinion of the
    referee, involved in active play by
  • Interfering with play
  • Interfering with an opponent
  • Gaining an advantage by being in that position
  • There is no offside for a ball received directly
    from a goal kick, throw-in, or corner kick
