• Telling time in Spanish is straightforward
• Its 200. -- Son las dos.
• Its 300. -- Son las tres.
• Its 400. -- Son las cuatro.
• Its 500 -- Son las cinco.

• Its 800. ?
• Son las ocho.

• Son las once.

You know how we say, Its 10 after 200,
Its 20 after 400, etc.? In Spanish, you say,

• Its 200 and 10. (210) -- Son las dos y diez.
• Its 400 and 20. (420) -- Son las cuatro y
  veinte.
• Its 600 and a quarter (15). (615) Son las
  seis y cuarto.
• Its 800 and a half. (830) --Son las ocho y
  media.
• Note that whats pink in English is equivalent
  to whats pink in Spanish, whats yellow in
  English is equivalent to whats yellow in
  Spanish, etc.

We say after only until we get to 30. We
wouldnt say, Its 40 after 300. Instead,
wed say, Its 20 till 400. You cant say
anything higher than 30. So once you reach 30,
you kind of start counting backwards. You say,
Its 400 minus 20. (The equivalent of 20 till
400.)

• Its 400 minus 20. (340)--Son las cuatro menos
  veinte.
• Its 700 minus 5. (655)Son las siete menos
  cinco.
• Its 1000 minus 25. (935)Son las diez menos
  veinte
• y cinco.
• Its 1200 minus a quarter. (1145)Son las doce
  menos
• cuarto.
• Note that whats pink in English is equivalent to
  whats pink in Spanish, whats yellow in English
  is equivalent to whats yellow in Spanish, etc.

You may have noticed that none of the times
mentioned so far have been 100, 110, etc.
Thats because you have to say, Its 100, a
little differently from how you say, Its 200,
Its 300, etc.

• Its 100. -- Es la (NOT son las) una.
• Its 110. -- Es la (NOT son las) una y diez.
• Its 130. -- Es la (NOT son las) una y media.
• Its 1250. (100 minus 10) -- Es la una menos
  diez.
• Its 1235. (100 minus 25) -- Es la una menos
  veinte y cinco.
• Any time you have to say, Una, then Es la,
  not Son las, must precede it.

• Note that media is the word for half (as in
  half past).
• Son las tres y media. Its half past 300.

• The word cuarto means quarter. Dont confuse
  it with cuatro. Remember that both cuarto
  and quarter have uart in them.
