Why write?
  • You already do it ...
  • You may write through text messages and IMs, use
    video cameras and cell phones, and, yes, even
    traditional pen and paper.
  • Writing invites people in every walk of life, in
    every kind of work, and at every age to make
    meaning through composing.
  • More and more people in all occupations deem
    writing as essential and influential in their
    work.

Why celebrate writing?
  • Students/people engage in a remarkable variety of
    writing every day.
  • Writing is a foundational place in Americans'
    personal, professional, and civic lives. 
  • Writing instruction and practice is important at
    every grade level, for every student and in every
    subject area from preschool through university.
  • Learning to write and composing for different
    audiences, purposes, and occasions is a lifelong
    process.

Why celebrate writing?
  • Writing done by American people and others covers
    a wide scope and range.
  • A full range of media can be utilized for
    composing. 
  • Americans can enjoy writing and and learn from
    the writing of others.

  • We have our own Gallery!
  • Our Gallery will focus on connecting with
    literature (books and stories youve read inside
    and outside class)
  • Theres no cookie-cutter way for which you have
    to respond

Ideas
  • All sorts of compositions will be accepted,
    including (but not limited to) electronic
    presentations, blog posts, documentary clips,
    poetry readings, how to directions, short
    stories, memos, audio and video clips.

The ONLY requirements
  • Connection in some way to something youve read
  • 50-250 words
  • Your name, a title and the title of the work that
    inspired your writing
  • Grammar, punctuation, spelling correctness

How youll be graded
  • 10 points formatting and length of writing
    (50-250 words)
  • 10 points focus/connection to the piece of
    literature
  • 10 points conventions
