Moses
  • The Egyptians knew that a boy was going to free
the Hebrews from slavery. So they began to kill
all the boys of a certain age.
  • Moses mother put him in a basket and placed him
in the Nile to save his life.
  • Moses was found by Pharaohs daughter and was
raised as a prince in Egypt.
  • Moses would later, with the power of God, free
    the slaves in Egypt.
  • Moses led them through the Red Sea
  • Moses received the Ten Commandments to help guide
    the people.
  • He eventually led them to the promised land.

Passover and the Eucharist
  • The Passover prefigured the Eucharistic Feast
    that we celebrate every Sunday.
  • A pure, unblemished, lamb is sacrificed to save
the people from death and enslavement.
  • The blood of the Lamb is used as a shield by
    spreading it on the doorpost.
  • Everyone had to share in the meat of the
    sacrifice.

8
Passover and the Eucharist
  • The last supper was the Passover feast
  • Jesus turned bread and wine into his body and
blood and offered himself as the new Lamb to save
them from eternal death and eternal enslavement
    (Hell).
  • Jesus intends all of us to share of that one
    single meal and sacrifice.
  • Each time we go to Mass it is not a new
    sacrifice.
  • Rather the priest calls forward that same
sacrifice into the present so that we too can eat
of the Lamb of God who takes away our sins.
  • When Christ died for us, it was once for all, so
    that sins may be forgiven.

9
Passover and the Eucharist
  • John the Baptist calls Jesus the Lamb of God.
  • Pilate condemns Jesus to die at the sixth hour
which is when the Passover lambs were sacrificed.
  • The soldiers gave Jesus vinegar to drink which
was placed on the end of hyssop stick. Hyssop
was used to spread the blood on the doorway at
    Passover.
  • The soldiers did not break any of Jesus bones.
The Israelites were commanded not to break any of
the bones of the Paschal Lamb.

  • How does the Eucharist connect to the Cross
