MARINE AND FAMILY SERVICES (MFS)
  • Suicide Prevention
  • The goal is to train Marines and Sailors to
    identify suicide risks and intervene before
    suicide is attempted
  • Suicide Prevention is facilitated by MARFORRES
    Chaplain
  • Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR)
  • Establishes a mandatory, standardized sexual
    assault victim assistance program for service
    members

FAMILY READINESS PROGRAMS
  • Lifestyle Insights, Networking, Knowledge and
    Skills (L.I.N.K.S.)
  • L.I.N.K.S. is a volunteer, team-mentoring
    program, designed by spouses for spouses. The
    curriculum focuses on spouses new to the Marine
    Corps community, but all spouses are welcome and
    encouraged to attend. The program offers an
    orientation to the Marine Corps lifestyle,
    helping spouses adapt to the unique challenges
    military life often presents.
  • Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP)
  • Designed to provide assistance to Marines with a
    family member(s) with special medical and/or
    educational needs before, during and after
    relocation due to PCS orders

  • Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program
    (PREP)
  • The workshop and the materials teach couples the
    skills needed to nurture a lasting love. Key
    topics include expectations, commitment, fun,
    forgiveness, friendship, feeling understood and
    sensuality
  • Chaplains Religious Enrichment Development
    Operations (CREDO)
  • A retreat program that supports Marine Corps
    readiness, retention, recruiting and QoL
  • Provides programs for personal growth, character
    development, team building, ethical leadership,
    and workshops on marriage enrichment and
    spiritual growth
  • Provides the opportunity to develop new
    perspectives about relationships with family and
    friends, the military, and spiritual traditions

  • Marine and Family Workshops (MFW)
  • A one day workshop adapted from the Marriage
    Enrichment Retreats conducted by Iowa National
    Guard
  • A post-deployment program designed to assist
    Marines (single or married) and their family
    members with return and reunion stressors and
    adjustment difficulties
  • Promotes a support network and enhances coping
    skills between demobilization of the unit and the
    first drill after demobilization
  • The goals and objectives of the workshop are to
  • Provide an opportunity for Marines and their
    family members to strengthen their coping skills
  • Mitigate the impact of traumatic events and war
    zone stressors
  • Accelerate the normal recovery process
  • Identify those who might need additional help and
    provide resources

  • Care for the Caregiver
  • Historically, MARFORRES Inspector-Instructors
    (I-I) have served as Casualty Assistance Calls
    Officers (CACO), but since the Global War on
    Terrorism their CACO duties have drastically
    increased.
  • Currently, MARFORRES tracks the numbers of
    casualty calls made by each I-I to identify those
    who have made more than two casualty calls.
    Those CACOs will be provided Care for the
    Caregiver support by the MARFORRES Chaplain and
    MHN.
  • Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM)
  • A comprehensive systematic and multi-tactic
    crisis intervention program for managing
    traumatic events within organizations or
    communities

  • Marine for Life Injured Support Program
    (M4L-IS)
  • Provides needs based individual support, as
    necessary, from the time of injury through the
    post-discharge transition period (up to one year
    after release from Active Duty), until fully
    integrated into the VA system
  • Planned features of the program include, but are
    not limited to
  • Advocacy for Marines, Sailors and their families
    within the Marine Corps and with external
    agencies
  • Pre and post service separation case assistance
  • Coordination with Physical Evaluation Boards
  • Educational and interactive web pages for
    disability and benefit information
  • An enhanced one source capability for 24/7/365
    disability related information
  • Facilitation/assistance with employment
  • Coordination with Veterans, public, and private
    organizations providing support to seriously
    injured Marines and Sailors

  • The KVN is an integral part of a Marine Corps
    unit family readiness program and is the primary
    communication between the Commanding Officer and
    the units families for the enhancement of
    mission readiness.

  • Military One Source is a 24/7/365 information and
    referral service available at no cost via toll
    free telephone and Internet
  • Resources are available on many subjects,
    including relocation, parenting and childcare,
    education, finances, legal issues, elder care,
    health and wellness, deployment, crisis support,
    and relocation.
  • Website features locators for childcare, elder
    care and education, financial calculators,
    resource rooms, workshops, moderated chats, and
    Email a consultant
  • Prepaid educational materials are available in a
    variety of formats (booklet, CD, cassette, and
    electronic downloads) and can be ordered via
    phone or online. Shipping of these materials is
    at no cost to the user.

  • Provide information on health care benefits,

  • Marine For Life (M4L)
  • Addresses all aspects of care for the Marine and
    family to include the very best medical care,
    travel and lodging for family members,
    coordination with external support agencies,
    retention in the Marine Corps if desired,
    transition support to Department of Veterans
    Affairs care, priority employment in the civil
    sector, continued monitoring after separation,
    and other forms of assistance as required.

  • Assists Marines and Sailors in a Limited Duty
    status by ensuring they are receiving the medical
    care they need
  • Ensures Limited Duty packages are appropriately
    processed from initiation through final
    disposition
  • Employers of Americas National Guard and Reserve
    (ESGR)
  • Encourages voluntary compliance with federal and
    state statues governing employment and
    reemployment rights of Reserve component members
  • Assists in preventing, resolving or reducing
    employer and/or employee problems and
    misunderstandings that result from National Guard
    and Reserve membership, training or duty
    requirements through information services and
    mediation
  • Assists in educating National Guard and Reserve
    members regarding their obligations and
    responsibilities to employers

  • Family Readiness Assist Visits
  • Identify units preparing for mobilization
  • Provide guidance and resources to establish
    and/or maintain viable and effective unit family
    readiness programs in accordance with Marine
    Corps and MARFORRES policy
  • Family Days
  • Annual, unit sponsored event open to Marines,
    Sailors and their family members attached to the
    unit. Also open to those families located in the
    geographical area.
  • Provide an opportunity to develop a sense of
    community within the unit and educate service
    members and families on available services,
    benefits and resources

  • Pre-Deployment
  • MARFORRES facilitates Family Day support and
    standard Pre-Deployment briefings. Specifically,
    pastoral care, and information on the mental
    health benefits available through Military One
    Source are included in the standardized MARFORRES
    Pre-Deployment briefs.
  • It is MARFORRESs intent to have the Managed
    Health Network (MHN) provide one or more
    counselors/clinicians to provide assistance in
    briefing/discussing deployment related stresses.
    And if needed, provide mental health
    assistance/care to the service members and their
    families who request it.

  • Deployment         
  • MARFORRES facilitates Family Day support,
    pastoral care, and provides Critical Incident
    Stress Management (CISM) training upon request.
  • It is MARFORRESs intent to have MHN provide one
    or more counselors (depending on the number of
    expected attendees) at Family Days in order to
    make counseling services readily available to
    MARFORRES families.
  • In addition, MARFORRES may request MHN assistance
    in facilitating CISM training.

  • Return and Reunion/Post-Deployment
  • MARFORRES facilitates Warrior Transition (if not
    provided by GFC), standardized MARFORRES Return
    and Reunion briefs, pastoral care, and provides
    information on the mental health benefits
    available through Military One Source.
  • It is MARFORRESs intent to utilize MHN services
    at Return and Reunion briefs by the MHN
    counselor(s)/clinician(s) briefing/discussing the
    War Zone stressors and how it affects service
    members and their families.

  • Follow-on
  • MARFORRES facilitates Chaplains Religious
    Enrichment Development Operations (CREDO),
    pastoral care, MHN services and continues to
    provide information on the mental health benefits
    available through Military One Source.
  • MARFORRES will ensure Reserve Chaplains, along
    with the MHN, visit Units on their first drill
    after they return from demobilization.
  • NOTE As part of the Follow-On phase, MARFORRES
    and CMC(MR) are working on expanding MHN services
    to include all drill weekends on a continuous
    basis for an undetermined period. The intent is
    to have MHN services available to MARFORRES
    drilling reservists, IRRs, and their families at
    the drill site during drill weekends.
