postsecondary- A high school student

Alignment/ Articulation -Course taught by

locally approved for advanced credit upon
completion of HS and entrance into PS
Dual Enrollment -Course taught by
postsecondary- A high school student
taking postsecondary courses for BOTH high school

What Is Articulation?
Articulation
Articulation allows high school students to
transfer credit for certain high school course
work to technical colleges in Georgia.

Criteria for Articulation
  • Student must make a minimum grade in the high
    school course as determined by the technical
    college. (where applicable)
  • Student must be accepted to a technical college
    within 18-24 months of graduation from high
    school.
  • Student must validate credit (methods vary)
  • Exemption test
  • Successful completion of next level course in
    program
  • Successful completion of a quarter of work at
    technical college

What Is the Purpose of Dual Enrollment?
  • To allow students to begin a postsecondary
    program in their chosen career field while they
    are still in high school
  • To allow students to earn credit at both the high
    school and the technical college while they are
    still in high school

What about Student Eligibility?
The student must have met all technical college
admission requirements for the selected program
of study (such as testing and age requirements).

What about Funding? (Dual Enrollment
Certificate and Diploma programs)
  • The program is a collaborative agreement between
    DOE and DTAE.
  • Funding
  • FTE funding for secondary schools
  • HOPE Grant funding for technical colleges

What Is the Process?
  • Agreement to Participate is signed by the
    technical college President and the local system
    Superintendent.
  • Local high schools work with the technical
    college to develop and implement courses to
    expand opportunities for students in each school.

What Are the General Guidelines?
  • Courses offered by the technical college must not
    supplant courses already offered in the secondary
    school.
  • Courses must be required within a technical
    certificate or diploma program offered by the
    technical college.

What Are the General Guidelines?
  • Course objectives must correlate with state DOE
    board-approved QCC course objectives (see website
    below)
  • Course must have a state-approved course number
  • Course cannot be secondary core academic course
  • English, Mathematics, Psychology, Biology, etc.

What about Faculty?
  • A secondary staff person is assigned to monitor
    and support the class.
  • The class is taught by a technical college
    instructor employed by the technical college.

Whats New? Accel Program
  • Effective Fall term 2004, the Postsecondary
    Options Program was discontinued.
  • The Accel Program was created to serve a similar
    purpose for eligible high school students
    enrolled in college degree-level courses.
  • -Associate and 4-year degree programs
  • Students earn college degree-level credit and
    high school course credit for eligible courses.

Joint Enrollment
  • Funding and admissions requirements are the same
    as dual enrollment.
  • Courses are taught by postsecondary instructors.
  • High school students receive postsecondary credit
    ONLY.
