Summary of architecture
  • Building for the glory of God as well as for
    protection highlighted medieval architectural
achievement, but in both the later periods,
buildings dwelt on exalting the monarch and the
    Deity.

Summary of historical periods
  • During the Middle Ages, the arts reflected a
conception of life centered on the Church and
chivalry and expressing a concern for survival
and salvation. The Renaissance was a more orderly
world where humans could center themselves and
their concerns in the arts. The 1600s reflect
the triumph and the visions of local populations
who desire control and exalt their destiny.
