10Alhambra
Having walked through a dark and narrow tunnel
of the Alhambra, I suddenly emerged into the
serene, silent and solitary Court of the Myrtles
I had the feeling that it enclosed what a
perfect garden, no matter its size, should
enclose nothing less than the entire
universe. - Barragan

11The Architecture Of Inner Experience
Aesthetic and moral intent as an ideal of
architecture in Barragans work could be
summarized in the form of a story, specifically
the one into which ferdinand Bacs Les Jardines
Enchantes opens. The books text and pictures
had a strong influence on Barragan and his
circle. In view of the radicalism exerted by
contemporary international (modern) architecture,
Barragans work is an exception, an act of
disobedience. His buildings evoke emotions and
sensations that are generally overlooked inner
experience, remoteness, fantasy, and nostalgia.
Barrgans work challenges the now ubiquitous
glazed nowadays even mirrored curtain wall.
