Title: Presentazione standard
1 2The History
- The Vibac Group began its activities in the
1970s in the adhesive cloth tape for the shoe
industry. The group then progressively
diversified its activity horizontally and
vertically, through the production of adhesive
tape for industrial packing and the production of
BOPP Film (Bioriented Polypropylene) for
industrial and food usage, that up to today
explains 60 of sales. - From the beginning of the 1970s to present day
the development of the Tape Division has passed
through the productive units of Ticineto (Vibac
Italia SpA Headquarters, today with eminently
administrative functions), Montreal (Vibac Tape
Corporation Canada) and Termoli (with a
productive global capacity of about 1.200 million
square meters). - The BOPP FILM DIVISION was created in 1980 with
the construction of the first bioriented
polypropylene plant at LAquila (Italy) . The
growth of the BOPP Film Division with the
increase of the productive capacity at LAquila
and the consecutive openings of the plants in
Potenza (Italy), Montreal (Canada) and Morristown
(USA) have permitted to follow the evolution of
the polypropylene market.
3 The History
- The BOPP Film Division today has a productive
capacity of 150.000 tons annually of BOPP Film
thanks to a 7 line production from 3 to 7 layers
and 5 metallizers. - Presently, The Vibac Group is composed of 6
productive units situated in Italy, the United
States and Canada, and employs worldwide a total
of more than 900 employees.

8The Products
- The Vibac Group is one of the main manufacturers
specialized in the production and distribution
of - Flexible Packaging Labeling based on BOPP Film
(Bioriented) - Pressure Sensitive Tapes for Carton Sealing, a
combination of three layers - RELEASE AGENT, upper layer
- BACKING or Film, middle layer on which the
adhesive is coated. The Vibac group is
specialized in the production of BOPP Film - ADHESIVE, adhesive layer
9 The Products Flexible Packaging
- The BOPP Film, together with PE and BOPET Films,
is one of the three main materials in the world
used for the Flexible packaging. It has replaced
paper and PVC in many applications, because its
production process respects the environment and
doesnt pollute. - BOPP is cheaper than BOPET and PE and has very
good features - It is very good for printing applications
- It does not change its features (it does not
become wrinkled or shrinks) with great heat
variations - It is light, non toxic, without odors, strong,
trasparent and resistant to humidity. - It finds large applications for food packing
(precooked foods, cookies, candy, snacks, ice
cream, etc) and recently it has become popular to
big End Users like Coca Cola, Procter Gamble,
Pepsi etc. as a material to be used for labelling
products.

11 The Products Tape
- The technology that can be used in the
production of pressure sensitive tapes is - The Vibac group today is specialized in the
production of Tape for Carton Sealing, with 2
solvent and 2 Hot Melt technology production
lines in the Termoli plant and the other one in
the Canadian Plant. The group is known on the
market as the acknowledged leader in Solvent
technology. 75 of its production is based on
Solvent technology.
- Acrylic water based, of low quality (largely
diffused in the Asian market) - Hot Melt it implies the use of rubber and
synthetic resin and occurs by hot fusion. It
shows medium quality features and requests more
contained investments in respect to solvent
technologies - Solvent it implies the use of natural rubbers
dissolved in solvent and occurs by cold coating.
Technology with high quality features. It
requests high investments

14Tape The applications
- Historically, the Tape industry is dominated by
the application for packing (Carton Sealing)
followed at a some distance by Masking (that uses
paper) used for coverings in the automotive,
building, construction and do-it-yourself fields.
In the next years Freedonia studies do not
register substantial changes in the demand.
The company management believes that the Masking
growth forecast estimated by Freedonia is is
underestimated in the light of the projection
methodology that doesnt consider the evolution
of growth rates in Eastern Europe In the above
terms, the management believes that the Masking
share in 2010 can reach 15 incidence on the
total demand, to the detriment of the
applications different from Carton Sealing The
values indicated in the following slides are
however done according to Freedonias forecast

15 Tape The applications
- Other than Carton Sealing, where we can find
different technology applications can be found,
Masking is a type of Tape suitable almost
exclusively for the Solvent technology, so that - It does not leave traces
- It stands high thermal variations
- It is not noisy when ripped
- The limit of the solvent technology can be
found in the high investments and in the time to
market (longer), and for such reasons we see the
birth and development of Hot Melt also in Europe,
where the growth of demand at the beginning of
2000 could find a rapid response in this
technology. It requests in fact - Contained investments
- Minor Knowledge / competence
The European Association for the Self Adhesive
Tape Industry (AFERA) thinks that 73 of the
Masking demand in 2005 is solvent based Masking.
Such percentange tends to grow in the future
years against the Hot Melt technology.
16Tape Considerations
- On a worlwide level, an annual growth of about 5
is registered. - If on a associated level the data of the North
American market lines up to a contained growth of
demand, a deeper analysis shows interesting
dynamics in fact if the US economy grows at a
rate of about 2 and is described as an export
economy, thanks also to the dollar devaluation,
the Canadian and Mexican economy shows growth
rates of demand that do not find an answer in the
existing productive capacity. At a global level
therefore the NAFTA market shows interesting
margins of penetration. -
