Review Steps

• Take a bold and thorough inventory of my life and
  confess my shortcomings to a trusted friend.

Making Changes

• Voluntarily submit to every change God wants to
  make in my life and humbly ask Him to remove my
  character defects.
• Search me, O God, and know my heart test me and
  know my thoughts. 24Point out anything in me that
  offends you, and lead me along the path of
  everlasting life. Ps. 13923,24

• Chromosomes
• Circumstances
• A lot of our defects are simply self-defeating
  attempts to meet unmet needs.
• Respectsettle for attention
• Lovecheap sex for emotional closeness
• Securitymaterial possessions
• Choicesdo things long enough and they become
  habits.

Hard to Change!

• Weve had our defects for a long time.
• Thats just the way I am!
• Its just like me to be a __________ (workaholic,
  overweight, anxious, fearful, hot-tempered, etc.)
  Become self-fulfilling prophecies.
• Every defect has a payoff! (His problems are his
  best friends.)
• Satan discourages us.

How?

• Focus on changing one defect at a time.
• An intelligent person aims at wise action, but a
  fool starts off in many directions. Pr. 1724
• Focus on victory one day at a time.
• Give us this month our needed bread. WRONG! Mt.
  611.
• Life by the yard is always hard, but inch by inch
  anythings a cinch.

• Focus on Gods power, NOT your WILL power.
• Can a leopard take away its spots? Neither can
  you start doing good, for you always do evil.

• Focus on the positive.
• Youll do best by filling your minds and
  meditating on things true, noble, reputable,
  authentic, compelling, graciousthe best, not the
  worst the beautiful, not the ugly things to

• Focus on doing good not feeling good.
• Live by following the Spirit. Then you will not
  do what your sinful selves want. Dont confuse
  the decision to yield control to Christ with the
