Title: Celebrate Recovery Inside
1Celebrate Recovery Inside
2What are the facts about recidivism
- About 1/3 of ex-offenders are re-arrested within
6 months - 40 of released offenders have no GED
- 2/3 of all ex-offenders will be re-arrested.
- 1 in 32 people nationally are in or have been in
the criminal justice system. - These numbers come from Richard Stroker, JD. He
has worked in the criminal justice system of
South Carolina for 28 years.
3Collaboration
- Networking
- Coordinating
- Cooperation
- Aftercare is a common goal that cannot be
achieved without partners
4The big picture of Aftercare
- Meeting the post-release needs of ex-offenders
- Housing
- Jobs
- Pro-social groups-church, CR meetings, etc.
- Medical needs
- Mental health needs
5What is Aftercare for Ridgecrest Baptist?
- Housing-providing a transition to a Probation and
Parole approved housing facility - Goal-a place that offers CR or has transportation
to a local CR - All our aftercare volunteers are women. We
have no actual contact with the offenders.
6The Housing Process
- We communicate with the offenders through the
volunteers who make weekly visits to the prison. - HOME PLANS
- 1. 2 months before parole, an offender must file
a home plan with the institutional P P officer.
The plan must receive approval from PP.
7Home Plans
- 2. A home plan form is filled out by the offender
and given to the Aftercare Team. - 3. A volunteer then utilizes the contact
information we have available to secure a
guaranteed place to live for the offender. - 4. Our goal is to select a placement that offers
CR in-house or that provides transportation to
weekly CR meetings at a local church.
8Home Plans
- 4. We get the offender a CR sponsor.
- If no CR is available at the location
requested, we at least try to set them up with
another Christian recovery program.
9Home Plans
- The information given on the Home Plan is crucial
to securing a spot for that person. Most often
the housing directors will want to know the
information before telling us if they will accept
the offender. However, remember that the Home
Plan is confidential!
