Theme Verse
  • I have seen how they have acted, but I will
heal them. I will lead them and help them, and I
will comfort those who mourn. I offer peace to
all, near and far. Isaiah 5718 Good News Bible

3
Five Parts
  • If you have been hurt, God says, I want to heal
    you.
  • If youre confused, I want to lead you.
  • If you feel helpless to change, I want to help
    you change that.
  • If youve felt that no one understands your
problem, I want to comfort you.
  • If you feel anxious, worried, and afraid, I want
    to offer peace to you.

Cause
  • My sin nature
  • I dont understand myself at all, for I really
want to do what is right, but I dont do it.
Instead, I do the very thing I hate. 16I know
perfectly well that what I am doing is wrong, and
my bad conscience shows that I agree that the law
is good. 17But I cant help myself, because it is
sin inside me that makes me do these evil things.
    Romans 715-17 NLT
  • I want to be God. I dont want anybody telling me
what is right and wrong. I want to make my own
rules. If it feels good, I want to be able to do
it. I want to be my own boss.

6
Control
  • We try to control our image.
  • We try to control other people.
  • We try to control problems, our problems.
  • We try to control our pain.

7
Consequences
  • Fear
  • Frustration
  • 21It seems to be a fact of life that when I want
to do what is right, I inevitably do what is
wrong.23But there is another law at work within
me that is at war with my mind. This law wins the
fight and makes me a slave to the sin that is
    still within me. Romans 721,23.
  • My dishonesty made me miserable and filled my
days with frustration. David in Ps. 323 LB

8
  • Fatigue
  • My strength evaporated like water on a sunny day
until I finally admitted all my sins to you and
stopped trying to hide them. Ps. 324,5 LB
  • Failure
  • You'll never succeed in life if you try to hide
your sins. Confess them. Give them up. Then
God will show mercy to you. Pr. 2813 Good News
    Bible.

Two reactions
  • My problem is not that bad.
  • God whispers to us in our pleasures, but He
shouts to us in our pain.
  • Thats fine, but I can solve my problems. This
    series is for somebody else.
  • You say, I can handle my problem, I can take
care of it. The fact is if you could handle it,
you would have, but you can't, so you won't. If
you could have handled that problem, it wouldn't
be a problem, you wouldn't still have it today.
But you can't, so you won't. Rick Warren
