2
What is Lupus?
  • Lupus is an autoimmune system.
  • That means your body is out of control and
attacks healthy tissue instead of germs.
  • Lupus is a disorder that causes the body's own
defenses to mistakenly attack the DNA and
    proteins within healthy cells. Complications
include arthritis, blood vessel inflammations and
    kidney failure.

3
Suspected cause of Lupus
  • A special enzyme, DNaise1 is responsible for
    eliminating trash DNA.
  • Germans have discovered that the key enzymes
failure to take out the trash contributes to
    lupus.

4
Myths about Lupus
  • Lupus is contagious.
  • You cant catch lupus from another person.
  • Lupus is a type of cancer.
  • Lupus is not cancer.
  • Lupus is related to AIDS
  • Lupus is in no way related to AIDS.

5
Signs and Symptoms
  • painful or swollen joints,
  • unexplained fever,
  • extreme fatigue,
  • skin rash may appear across the nose, cheeks,
face, ears, upper arms, shoulders, chest, and
    hands.
  • chest pain,
  • hair loss
  • sensitivity to the sun
  • anemia (a decrease in red blood cells), and pale
or purple fingers and toes from cold and stress.
  • Some people also experience headaches, dizziness,
    depression, or seizures

6
Do I have Lupus?
  • Complete physical examThe doctor will look for
rashes and other signs that something is wrong.
  • Laboratory testingBlood and urine samples often
show if your immune system is overactive.
  • Skin or kidney biopsyIn a biopsy, tissue that is
removed by a minor surgical procedure is examined
under a microscope. Skin or kidney tissue
examined in this way can show signs of an
    autoimmune disease.

Prognosis?
  • The idea that lupus is generally a fatal disease
is one of the gravest misconceptions about this
illness. In fact, the prognosis of lupus is much
    better today than ever before.
  • It is true that medical science has not yet
developed a method for curing lupus and some
people do die from the disease, however there are
many lupus patients who never have to be
hospitalized, especially if they are careful and
    follow their physician's instructions.
