THE STRUGGLE FOR DIGNITY
  • Whites still owned most of the land.
  • Many blacks ended up working for whites by
    renting land, tools and seeds.
  • At the end of the year they would repay their
    debts.
  • In reality most of these sharecroppers never
    escaped debt.

Free at last?
  • These changes to the constitution(rules) meant
    black people had the same rights to freedom as
    white people
  • Black males had the right to vote
  • However discrimination and racism continued
