Title: Pitching Mechanics

1
Pitching Mechanics
  • This presentation breaks down the components of
pitching delivery. Every pitcher is unique but
these things should be part of your delivery.

2
Elbows Opposite and EqualGlove Over Landing
FootHips Rotate to Put Head Over Landing
FootShoulders Go Last to Deliver Ball
3
Wind-up
  • Keep it simple.
  • Everything you do before you reach balance point
is NOT pitching it is merely preparation to
    pitch.
  • Make sure everything you do prior to balance
point does not hinder your ability to execute the
    pitch.
  • Keep your head in front of the rubber, weight on
pivot foot, front cleats over the rubber.

4
Stretch
  • Get set Hands apart ? Get sign ? Bring hands
    together
  • Be comfortable
  • Breath, relax ? dont wear yourself out with a
    tension-filled set position
  • See the base runner.
  • Goal control the runners while focusing on
    executing your pitch
  • Pick to get someone out, no lob-over.

5
Leg Up
  • Whatever your posture as your leg goes up,
maintain that posture down the hill
  • Be dynamic in your delivery ? let your pivot foot
straddle the front edge of the rubber.

6
Down the Hill
  • As you pick up your leg and and go down the hill,
your head only goes forward (towards home plate),
eyes level, throw around your head
  • As you go down the hill, what your throwing arm
    does your lead arm does.
  • Elbows mirror each other ? same height (balanced)
  • Shoulders in front of hips. Like you are on a
tightrope (or a skateboard, snowboard) and trying
to maintain your balance as you go down the hill.

7
Delivery
  • Torque creates arm speed and velocity.
  • As you land, hips are opening and shoulders stay
    closed.
  • Shoulders and hips in opposite directions for as
long as possible. (Goal create and maintain
distance between front hip and back shoulder).
  • Delivery involves squaring the shoulders over
ball of front (landing) foot. Goal ? late
    rotation.

8
Finish
  • As shoulders square up, squeeze glove and turn
lead elbow down in front of lead hip.
  • Chest goes to glove on delivery make chest drive
    through glove.
  • Back leg comes up and over following in throwing
    arm slot.
  • Fight head to keep eyes level.
  • Head and glove should be over landing foot.
