IMPORTANT ACHIEVEMENTS AND TASKS UNDERTAKEN

There has been progressively good enrolments for
the Koraput Regional Centre in the last academic
sessions. When the overall enrolment for July
2005 Cycle stood at 3780, the figure increased to
4360 for January, 2006 and 4815 for July 2006.

Different promotional and public relations
activities were undertaken for increase in
enrolment. As mentioned earlier, in the
programme-wise enrolment across study centres,
B.A. has registered the highest with 2193
students for July 2006 (the figure for July, 2005
was 1533).

There has been good outreach to rural remote
areas. Out of the 43 centres, 18 are located in
district headquarters and 25 in places beyond
district headquarters mostly in rural and tribal
areas.

CORPORATE ACTIVITIES

Waiving of DD Commission Charges The Regional
Centre operates three bank accounts at Koraput
respectively as expenditure (grants), income
(Sale of Student handbook and prospectus) and
Student Fees account. On my request, the banks
have exempted IGNOU from paying DD commissions on
official DDs being drawn by the RC, Koraput. This
way the RC has by now saved thousands of rupees.

MEDIA CONTACT One of the leading Oriya Dailies
has been carrying out IGNOUs admissions
advertisement for Koraput region on DAVP (Govt.
of India rates as against commercial) rates that
too with 10 per cent discount. Other Newspapers
are also giving discounts ranging from 20 30
per cent.

Recently, from MP LAD Fund, a Lok Sabha MP has
given together for the College and Study Centre,
2180D, Sankarakhol, Dist. Kandhamal four
computers and Rs. 1000/- per month for a teacher
for 10 months to teach IGNOUs computer courses.

OTHER PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES

Preparation of Database of village heads in
Koraput region for promotional activities. A
database of college students of the last five
years in Koraput was made so as to get in touch
with them for their awareness of IGNOU and for
their admission in relevant IGNOU programmes

The list of AIR Rural Audience Groups based at
village levels, under the all India Radio,
Jeypore (Orissa) for KBK districts was collected
and a database made for promotional
activities. Participation and taking sessions on
IGNOU in combined primary teachers cluster
meetings for promotion of IGNOUs academic
activities.

Preparation of information brochures and
distribution to village heads, college students,
primary school teachers for awareness and student
enrolment in IGNOU programmes. Involving study
centres in the strategies for better enrolment at
their centres. Publishing write-ups on IGNOU and
distance teaching-learning system and on the
Regional Centre, Koraput in magazines and
souvenirs.
