• Archer Park was deeded to the City of McAllen by
  Mayor Oliver Pearcy Archer in 1917, six years
  after McAllen was founded.

Atop of the bandstand, is the date in which
Archer Park was named, in honor of Mayor Oliver
Pearcy Archer, by the McAllen Board of City
Commissioners

• This plaque is located in front of the bandstand
  located in Archer Park. The plaque states the
  dates in which the park was deeded and
  established.

The Bandstand which was built in 1933, is the
heart of Archer Park. In fact, the pillars are
still made of the original wood and the stairs
made of stone.
The 7th and 8th of December are reserved for the
Candlelight Posadas. McAllen celebrates the
spirit of Christmas with a parade, luminarias,
caroling,bright lights, a candlelight posada, and
a live Nativity scene all at Archer Park.

In the basement area of the Bandstand was the
location of McAllens original library. It was in
this location from 1936-1949 until it moved to
its present location.
This side-view shows the high basement windows of
the library located under the bandstand.

This plaque is located in front of the
International Friendship Fountain in Archer Park.
This fountain was given to McAllen in 1989 on
the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of the sister-city
relations between Irapuato, Guanajato, Mexico and
McAllen.
