- NHD - National Hydrography Dataset
- EDNA - Elevation Derivatives for National
Applications - NHDPlus
3Overview of National Hydrography Dataset (NHD)
- A Framework dataset that includes
- Hydrographic features for making maps
- A national stream addressing system
- A modeling network for navigating
upstream/downstream - A maintenance infrastructure
4Overview of National Hydrography Dataset (NHD)
- A Framework dataset that includes
- User updates
- Distributed formats personal geodatabase,
shapefiles, coverages - Compatible with ArcHydro Model Tools
5Overview of National Hydrography Dataset (NHD)
- Resolution or Scale
- Medium Resolution, 1100K scale
- High Resolution, 124K scale or better
- Local Resolution, limited availability, from 15K
source
6Medium Resolution NHD, 1100K
7High Resolution NHD, 124K
8High and Medium Resolutions
9NHD Features
Stream/River Pipelines Ditches/canals
Artificial Paths Connectors Underground
Conduit Coastline Lake/pond
Drain features
These features receive the reach code number
10NHD Features
- Underground Conduit represents underground
streams/drains particularly for karst and
volcanic geomorphology. - Artificial Paths represent flow in rivers and
lakes that are represented as 2 dimensional. - Connector connects flow between two streams,
ditches, or a combination of drain features.
11Reach Code
- Assigned to drain features, (streams, canals,
pipelines, connectors, artificial paths)
coastlines and lakes - Is a numeric code that uniquely labels each reach
Is a permanent identifier and occurs only once - Contains 14 digits
- First 8 digits represent the subbasin
- Last 6 digits are assigned sequentially, but
applied arbitrarily
