  • Alcohol is a depressant, which means it slows the
    function of the central nervous system.
  • Blocks some of the messages trying to get to the
    brain altering a person's perceptions, emotions,
    movement, vision, and hearing.
  • Alcohol is legal for ADULTS over that age of 21-
    this does NOT mean it is not harmful
  • Alcohol gets absorbed directly into your
    bloodstream and goes straight to your brain

  • THC The main mind altering chemical found in
    Marijuana.
  • Over 400 chemicals can be found in average
    marijuana
  • 10 times more potent than the 1970s
  • The Gate Way Drug Highly addictive, most
    frequent users will develop a tolerance and need
    more weed to get high, until ultimately looking
    for a high in a stronger more addictive/dangerous
    drug

Harmful effects of Marijuana
  • Impairs thinking, reading comprehension, and
    verbal and mathematical skills. Research shows
    that students do not remember what they have
    learned when they are "high".
  • Thinking and reflexes are slower
  • Studies show that men and women can lose the
    ability to reproduce especially harmful during
    adolescence
  • Irritates and damages the lungs
  • More cancer-causing agents than is found in
    tobacco smoke
  • Problems with memory and learning distorted
    perception difficulty in thinking and
    problem-solving loss of coordination and
    increased heart rate, anxiety, and panic attacks.
  • Critical skills related to attention, memory, and
    learning are impaired among people who use
    marijuana
