Video Game Industry. Job Trends Statistics
http//www.adigitaldreamer.com/articles/video-game
-industry.htm
The Bureau of Labor predicts that the growth of
software publishing, of which video game design
is a part, will expand by 67.9 between 2002 and
2012. This is the fastest growing industry across
all sectors. Revenue from computer games now
exceeds that from the Hollywood box office.
Competition for market share is cutthroat and the
consumer demands ever more complexity and
lifelike graphics and animation. In 2002, 256,000
people were employed in software publishing.
Software and hardware have now become
commodities, few homes do not possess at least
one computer, and their use in business and
industry is close to saturation. Convergent
technology has blurred the boundaries between
sectors, so opportunities for a video game
designer now exist not just for PCs, but also
within mobile telephony. Clearly, there is
immense opportunity if you have been trained at
college for video game design. Because Video Game
Design is a relatively new, but flourishing
occupation, the Bureau of Labor does not have
exact salary figures. According to an article in
their publication, The Occupational Outlook
Handbook' surveys of placement agencies found
that the average salary was between 35,000 and
75,000. Clearly, salary will depend in part on
your reputation within the field.
