When Should You Use a Web Server Other Than
Blackboard?

• For any audience or need other than instruction
• Marketing to prospective students
• Sharing research
• Departmental web site
• Center web site
• Professional web site, etc.
• Anything you want search engines to find

General Steps for Web Site Creation

• Create your web content. This content will most
  likely consist of HTML, PDF, jpeg, and/or gif
  files.
• Get server access and upload your files to the
  server.
• Test your materials.
• Give out your web address.

What is Dreamweaver?

• Dreamweaver is a web page creation tool
• Behind the scenes, it creates HTML code
• You dont have to work with or know HTML
• It is also called WYSIWYG
• NOTE Dreamweaver does NOT serve web pages out
  on the internet

• Netscape Communicator

• All web pages creation tools make the same kind
  of files.
• Dreamweaver can open and edit any file created by
  any other web page editor.
• Any web page editor can open and edit any file
  created by Dreamweaver.
• However, Dreamweaver has several advantages.

• Creates Standard HTML.
• Pages work well in both Internet Explorer,
  Netscape, Firefox, etc.
• Well-organized user friendly interface.
• Much more advanced than other web page creation
  tools.
• Already has many built-in, higher-end

• Creating Dreamweaver files is only the first
  step.
• Youll need to locate a server from which to
  deliver your files via the web
