Personality Traits, Attitudes Motives
- Implicit and explicit traits are independent,
both existing separately (Jordan et al.,2003
McClelland et al.,1989). - Implicit and explicit traits are only partially
independent, or moderately overlapping
(Wilson et al., 2000). - Implicit and explicit traits are fully
dependent, or almost completely overlapping
(Weiner, 1980, 1986 Raven, 1988).

- 2nd Prediction
- For the most part, the IAT measures did not
improve the prediction - of the expected criterion variables, with two
exceptions (1) larger - discrepancies between implicit and explicit
friendliness predicted - lower vitality, and (2) higher implicit
dominance predicted lower - negative affect.
- Also, the explicit measures tended to predict
the criterion variables - higher explicit friendliness predicted higher
positive affect and - vitality and higher explicit dominance
predicted more interpersonal - problems, as well as more positive affect and
emotional well-being.
