What is JCMU?

• The Japan Center for Michigan Universities (JCMU)
  is a consortium of the 15 public Michigan
  universities.

The JCMU Facility
We have a living learning center in Japan where
consortium students and others can study Japanese
language and culture.

Where is JCMU?

• JCMU is located on the edge of Lake Biwa in
  Hikone City, Shiga Prefecture on the main
  Japanese island of Honshu
• Hikone City is 45 minutes from Kyoto and 1.5
  hours from Osaka by train.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to know Japanese? -No! Prior language
study is not required. Do I have to be a
Japanese major? -No! JCMU encourages students of
all majors and specializations to apply!
Where will I live? -In addition to our
dormitories at JCMU, there is also the
opportunity for home-stay experiences with
Japanese families. How will I get
around? -Bicycles are provided for daily use
within Hikone and Japan boasts a variety of
options at great prices for long-distance travel.

• Consortium students are still enrolled at their
