5Improving sport for young people
- Over the past four and a half years, the
Partnership has supported - more than 21,000 young people in taking part in
high quality sports activity
6Basketball ..
- During the first 3 years of activity
- 1225 children received coaching or competed
- 226 basketball coaches and teachers received
training - Central venue girls league established
- Surrey Streetjam 3-on-3 series set up

- A 260 increase in junior girls teams in 2 years
(from 5 to 18 teams) - NEW Surrey U14 and U17 leagues
- NEW Surrey Junior Girls 7s tournament
- NEW Surrey U14 and U17 County and Development
Squads 50 girls - NEW Annual FE tournament

- Disability Tag Rugby programme in 2004/05
- 4 schools in Runnymede, Woking, Waverley
- 53 boys and 4 girls all schools still playing
- 7 teachers trained
- 9 students at Broadwater School trained to assist
in Tag Rugby delivery in the SEN Unit at the
school - Additional funding secured for Year 2

- Over 700 young people have received high quality
athletics coaching - Surrey Youth Games has become a key part of
Talent ID for young athletes
10Hockey ..
- The most significant impact the Partnership has
made is in increasing the quality of coaching
available to young people.

32 Girls from 5 different Special Schools took
part in a Coaching Programme at Guildford
Spectrum Two Festival Days targeting Girls with
Moderate Learning Difficulties were run with
72 Girls attending MLD
Girls Football was introduced to the
Surrey Youth Games in 2005
A special project focusing on Asian Girls in
Woking delivered coaching to 94 Girls 12 Girls
took part in a coaching programme at
Sheerwater Youth Centre
19In total 2275 Girls were introduced to Football
through direct activities organised by Active
Surrey
These introductory activities have for many girls
led into regular involvement in football and
those with particular talent were at last
recognised
20The Development of Talented Footballers
Over the last 3 years 878 Girls have been
assessed through the Stage 3 Assessment Centres
and following on from these 306 Girls have been
identified given 20hrs advanced coaching at the 6
Development Centres which have been run
throughout the county.
34 of these girls have gone on to be offered
places at either Fulham FC or Chelsea FC

21Investment in Coaches
8 Level 1 Bursaries have been awarded plus 3
female only courses have been run in partnership
with the Surrey FA with 53 new female coaches
qualified 6 Level 2 and Level 3 Bursaries have
been awarded
A full-time Community Football and Multi-Skills
Coach was employed in April 2005 with investment
from Active Surrey and the Surrey FA. So far
our coach has delivered Football and Multi skill
sessions to 2178 children 985 of which have been
girls.
In partnership with Athletics a part-time
Community Sports Coach has been employed to
deliver Disability Football in Schools and the
local community
22The Biggest Achievement has been the development
of the Surrey County Girls League
- In 2001 the vision was
- To have a strong, well organised league which
would bring clubs together - To provide new clubs with a clear structure for
Development - Cut travel times for teams
- Provide a multi-divisional competition resulting
in good quality competition at the appropriate
standard for different teams
With an investment of funds from Active Surrey
and the Surrey FA, and a large investment of time
from the Womens and Girls Football Development
Officer and a
group of dedicated volunteers,
the vision
became a reality

Season 2 (2003/2004) 61 teams from 22 clubs
Season 3 (2004/2005) 85 teams from 38 clubs
Season 4 (2005/2006) 111 teams from 49 clubs
1526 players are now registered
In the 2005/06 season a Womens League was
started with 17 teams from 16 clubs

- over 800 volunteering hours contributed by more
than 100 young people - approx 1,200 hours worked by adult officials, of
which 1,000 were volunteering hours - over 200 coaches delivered approx 2,300 coaching
hours, two thirds of which were volunteering

- Support for NGBs at the Surrey Youth Games

- Certain sports required a large numbers of
volunteers - Parents siblings were asked on the day to help
most were unqualified - Those that helped werent encouraged to stay
involved post-Games

- Clubs crying out for helpers, especially coaches
and officials - Junior clubs complaining about brain drain
(members leaving for FE/HE) - No structure to reward and recognise volunteers
