What is a sentence?

• A sentence is a group of words that tells a
  complete thought. It tells who or what, and it
  tells what happens.
• My best friend found a dog.

Types of sentences

• There are four types of sentences.
• Declarative
• Interrogative
• Imperative
• Exclamatory

Declarative Sentence

• A declarative sentence is a sentence that tells
  something.
• It ends with a period.
• Bill runs every morning.
• He jogs around the lake.

Interrogative Sentence

• A sentence that asks something is an
  interrogative sentence.
• It ends with a question mark.
• How far does Bill run?
• Can he run a mile?

Imperative Sentence

• An imperative sentence is a sentence that tells
  someone to do something.
• It ends with a period.
• Please hold my bat.
• Watch the ball.

Exclamatory Sentence

• An exclamatory sentence is a sentence that shows
  strong feeling, such as excitement, surprise, or
  fear.
• It ends with an exclamation point. (!)
• She hit a homerun!
• Our team won the game!
