taking him to the village of Macoso.

Ortiz and Macoso become friends. Ortiz learns to
speak and live as a Native American.

Hernando de Soto arrives from Spain with the
largest fleet ever.

Harbor, then moves north to search for gold.

Hernando de Soto uses Ortiz as a guide.Ortiz
helps the Spanish and Native Americans become

Hernando de Soto went as far as the Mississippi
River. He died and was buried in the river.

Native Americans had died in wars with the
