What is Scrum?

• Scrum is an agile method for management of
  software development projects.
• Scrum divides a project into iterations.

Microsofts idea of scrum

• Teams meet once a day for half an hour, figure
  out what they're going to do then go off and do
  their work very quickly.
• Many teams within Microsoft rely on Scrum as a
  way to turn out quality software on time and in
  tune with user requirements.

• Microsoft lauds scrum on November 13th,2005 with
  299 comments.
• Microsoft is adopting the agile methodology Scrum
  to get software built faster.

• They seem to be claiming that Scrum and Extreme
  Programming have helped them get recent releases
  such as SQLServer2005 out the door faster with
  better quality.
• On the heels of launching the long-awaited SQL
  Server 2005, Microsoft is promoting the use of
  "scrum" to speed up the management of software
  projects .

Size of problems reduced

• Microsofts software practices used in the
  mid-90s don't scale to the size of problems that
  they are tackling today.
• Around the turn of century the processes would
  scale up and result in certain time frames to be
  able to ship software.

Interdependencies in software

• As the projects got larger and larger too many
  complex interdependencies are introduced on early
  software .
• Given the scale of projects Microsoft is trying
  to make these interdependencies as precise as
  possible.

SCRUM TEAM

• Scrum team is made up of between five to 10
  people, although there could be more.
• The team works in Scrum "sprints" of about 30
  days to complete a particular task or set of
  tasks for a particular milestone.

  meetings and then they go off to work on their
  portions of the project. And although there is a
  "scrum master" or project manager like position

• Can make software easier to use.
• Closer interaction with customer.
• Customer is happy with early release.

  software development.
