2
Background Information
  • As altitude increases, the outside pressure
    decreases.
  • A one-way valve only lets air go inside, but does
not let it out, or visa versa.

3
Our Experiment/Objective
  • We have attached a gondola to a balloon filled
    with helium.
  • Inside the gondola theres a jar which is going
to trap a sample of the air every hundred feet.
  • Then we are going to measure the pressure using
Verniers Lab Pro and Logger Pro software.

4
Hypothesis
.
  • Our hypothesis was that as the altitude increased
the pressure outside the jar would decrease and
the pressure inside the jar would stay constant.

5
Graph of our Data
Altitude (feet above ground level)
Altitude (feet from ground level)
6
Data Analysis
  • The data deviates from the linear
relationship. Possible Sources for deviation are
  • If the wind blows into the valve it will increase
the pressure, if it blows the other way it takes
    out some of the pressure.
  • The height was being measured as the length of
the rope, instead of the height of how high the
balloon is from the ground level.
  • Also the rope was not perfectly straight so the
balloon could not have reached up to 1,000 feet.

7
Conclusion
  • Our hypothesis was proven wrong because we
thought that the pressure inside our jar would
increase with the increase of altitude. The
pressure inside the jar decreased just like the
    outside pressure.
